Genie was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Maryland. She is the second of four children. Genie has been singing since she was 8 years old. She used to sing and play clarinet in her school choir, where she mostly played by ear. One day, her sister discovered that Genie could really sing. "When I would sing, my sister would say, this new girl sounds like you!!..ha...that new girl was Mary J. Blige". 

Genie has a voice that is best described as 'captivating'. Genie has captivated and won the hearts of her many audiences by striving to be one of the best female performer's around.
